1. INTRODUCTION
Foobtall Fanatic is text based soccer manager simulation. Our premise
is European teams have band together to form a European super league. The
league consists of 4 divisons with 16 teams. You play a 30 game/32 week
regular season, with a 18 week off season. There are also 4 cups to be won
(see CUPS for more information). The top three regular season finishers are
promoted to the next division except for the first division, and the bottom
three are relegated. Relegation from the fourth division leads to your
termination.
2. RUNNING FOOTBALL FANATIC
Football Fanatic is a DOS game and should be run in a DOS environment.
Playing it in a simple DOS session (OS/2, Win 95/NT) should be fine, but we
recommend you exit to DOS and play it in "pure" DOS.
Footy can be played on many different operating systems. One of the
following operating systems is required: DOS (Novell/DR DOS, PC-DOS, or MS-DOS),
Windows 3.0/3.1, OS/2, or Windows 95/NT.
Footy requires - 2 Megs of RAM
- 2 Megs of Hard Disk Space
- 386 or better processor (286 not recommended)
- CGA,EGA or VGA graphics card
3. INSTALLING FOOTBALL FANATIC
Create a directory to where you wish to install Football Fanatic.
Copy the file "FF-BETA.ZIP" into that directory. FF-BETA.ZIP is a
archive containing compressed files. You will require PKUNZIP or a similiar
utility to extract the files. Type "PKUNZIP FF-BETA.ZIP" then press <Enter>
to decompress the files contained inside it. FF-BETA.ZIP can be deleted once
the game has been installed. If you are reading this, however, you figured all
this out anyway.
Type FF <Enter> to start the game.
4. BETA VERSION NOTES
4.1 MISSING PARTS
Many parts weren't included because they make game too unstable
(i.e. it crashes), or are only partly done. The following is a list outlining
what is missing or incomplete.
- The final engine. The only tactical option that influences the
game at the moment is the formation. Player assignments (free
kicks, corners, etc) and tactical choices (style, attack, etc)
do not aid or hurt your team. These components have no influence
on the final result for now. You can, however, pretend that it
makes a difference :-).
- Stadium improvements. The chairman is somewhat odd in approving
or rejecting proposals. Also the improvements are done regardless
on how long they take. Rule of thumb is to have plenty of cash.
- Contract system. You can be given some odd contracts and some
top teams may approach you regardless of your reputation.
- players lent away come back with no change in rating
- player ratings are too consistent
- no player bookings and suspensions
- no end-of-season review/summary
- no EFL history option
- no substitutions
- financing for various facets of your team (scouting, training,
etc) default to a fixed value
4.2 BUGS
We are aware of some of the bugs left in the game. Some bugs remain
to be discovered. This is a partial list of the known bugs:
- some players may recall events that never happened, just ignore
their confused souls
- a player may be duplicated on your reserve team
- the player search option when dealing with player values may
show what the teams want for the player and not what he is worth
- record stadium attendance for teams will be mostly incorrect
- players on your youth team may improve too much
- stadium attendance still needs some work
- season ticket sales might be somewhat low
- a player may be duplicated in a team
- a team occasionally buys a player that they own
- the same non-EFL team could play in more than one Toto Cup group
4.3 ODDITIES
Life is strange, so is Footy.
- some teams may have players who are 77 years old. This means
that their ages will be generated randomly.
- some players might have skill values over 100. Be happy for them.
- some teams may have some odd names for the managers
- how did <insert crappy team name here> end up playing for the
World Club Cup? We don't know, we are enjoying all the free stuff
we got from these nice business-people.
- when you play a friendly if the 16th off-season week, it is thrown
in together with the World Club Cup game. Your game is played
first.
- the Serie D may show awfully high scores in some games. Remember
that the difference between teams in the bottom division is much
greater than in the other ones.
4.4 FIXED
The first beta had some serious problems this was fixed for 1.1
- the game would freeze at the end of the season
- when playing for the Toto Cup the venues would not be neutral
- stadium maintenance costs were too high
- home cup and friendlies now bring in rightful revenue
- some top scorers would have a ludicrous amount of goals scored
- the screen that shows you your game result would have
information that overruns the border
- some players would have strange number of weeks in their contract
- season ticket sales were incorrect
- stadium capacity figures were incorrect
- stadium attendance would not go up significantly at the end of
season when your team was playing for promotion, avoiding relegation
or challenging for the championship
